Spring Vacation!
Edited by Lindy H. and Grace D.
During our spring vacation, which was over a week long, some of us traveled and some of us stayed in Illinois.
I visited my friend Kaiya, and we went to the Orchestra in Chicago. It was very long. On Sunday, I went to church and saw my cousins and their van. I went to my grandma’s house and it was very fun. I had a good time, welcome back class!
Kailie had an awesome during spring vacation!

The Spelling Bee
By Peyton O.
The spelling bee is over-with some exciting results! The primary grade winners were: in first grade, 1st place Lauren K. and 2nd place Shaw M. In second grade, 1st place Kasey B. and 2nd place Caroline K. When Kasey B. was asked what was going through his mind when he figured out he won the spelling bee, Kasey replied: “I was thinking how proud I was of myself.” I also asked Kasey what he did to celebrate his victory. He replied: “After, my family and me went to McDonalds to get ice cream.” Kasey says to win the spelling bee you should go slow and concentrate. Congratulations to Kasey and all to other spelling bee participants!

When the 12 Dancing Princesses met Jasmine and Aladdin
When the 12 Dancing Princesses met Jasmine and Aladdin
Published by Lindy H.
Story written by Jasmine W.
Once upon a time, deep in the forest the 12 dancing princesses were playing ball, when along came Aladdin and Jasmine. They asked, “ Do you 12 dancing princesses want to go fishing with us?” So the 12 dancing princesses thought about the idea and since it was a good idea they said, “Sure!” They all went together to the pond. When they started fishing Aladdin caught a tire but he let it go. Then Jasmine caught a rainbow trout. She wanted to keep it as a pet. Jasmine loved rainbows, in fact she loved them so much she didn’t want to let the fish go! She did anyways. Then one of the princesses caught a big fish but she let it go because it was so heavy.
Then a blue fairy came looking for the princesses and when she saw them go fishing she said, “ It is time to go princesses” The princesses said good bye to Aladdin and Jasmine and left. They were all happy that they had met new friends, and they all lived happily ever after.

All of the classes in first grade did their very first music share! It happened Thursday from 5:30 to 8:00 right before winter break, on December 16th. First grader named Emily told us, “Some of the songs we sang were Little Jack Pumpkin Face and, Bow Wow Wow.” Isabel said, “I liked how all the first graders got together to sing and play instruments.” When we asked what instrument he played, Sam replied,“ I play the xylophone.” Hopefully all the first graders loved the music share and would want to do it again! Way to go, first graders!
2H Fairytale Dioramas
Piece by Lindy H. and Caroline G.
Lately, Mrs. Holt’s class has been working on an exciting project. The assignment was to read and pick a favorite fairytale, then to recreate it inside a shoebox. Students were allowed to use materials such as string, clay, markers, and other materials. Luca C. told us his fairytale was based on The Three Little Pigs. He said the reason he chose this fairytale was because he liked that story and it was funny when the pigs tricked the wolf and he fell into the pot of boiling water. Luca happily said he used Legos, wood sticks, and pictures from the computer to complete his diorama. Luca learned that fairytales stretch the truth. Looks like this second grader had a lot of fun with his diorama project!
Let's Write
By Peyton O.
Last time we collected folders with your work in them, FYI Primary Page was so surprised! There were so many great pictures and crafts. We loved all the submissions, but do you know what we didn’t have a lot of? Articles! We here at FYI love featuring all your great work so the whole school and world and world can see what you have done. Next time, why don’t you write an article about what you just learned in math class? Or submit the story about turtles you just finished. Everyone would love to read it.

Kindness From the Heart
By Peyton O. and Grace D.
The holiday season has come and passed, but Ms. Merz’s second graders have that feeling of giving a great gift in them for a while. This year they adopted a family who was less fortunate than themselves and made their holiday season great by giving them gifts and presents. Families in this classroom sent in small donations to help cover the cost of the gifts. Then, room parent, Mrs. Michelle Gill, went to various stores to purchase the family what they asked for. Some of the items were: Leap Frog Learning Pads, Walmart gift cards, and new clothes. We asked Caroline what the family had actually asked for, and Caroline said: “They asked for toys, books, and clothes.” Caroline also said that [helping this family] makes her feel great.
